New Bed!

We have officially upgraded to a king size bed!  What a process!

First:  Room Re-Arrange
You may recall that a new bed was our fifth anniversary present to each other as the traditional gift for #5 is wood.  We declared that was going to be our present, and then did not do anything about it.

One of the first things we had to do was rearrange our bedroom furniture to make sure the bed would actually fit.  I have been wanting to do this for a while as well, but Nate was not really into the idea because a) Our furniture is super heavy; and b) He was not sold on the whole bed in front of a window thing, no matter how many photos from Pinterest I showed him :)  (I don't know about you but I am not very good at visualizing furniture arrangements.  I need to actually physically move the furniture to decide if I like it.)

Nate bought these furniture moving discs from Ace Hardware (similar product) and we were off.  We could not believe how well these worked!

Once we rearranged the room, Nate commented, "I'm sorry for not doing this sooner.  It looks a ton better."  The room did not feel as cavernous as it did with our previous arrangement, and at the risk of sounding crazy, it had much better "flow".

Next up:  Buying the Bed
We purchased the bed earlier this month during a 15% off sale and it was delivered mid-month.

Step Three:  Mattress Shopping
We then had to do the whole mattress shopping thing.  After three different outings to almost every store that sells mattresses around us, we ended up selecting a memory foam mattress, which was delivered last Friday.  I am not sure what brand it is, but it is NOT a Tempur-pedic.  We were feeling a little iffy on the whole memory foam thing so did not want to committ to spending the money on the Tempur-pedic.  Also, Nate did not really like any of the Tempur-pedics that we tried.

Friday night we took down the queen-sized bed, which is now listed on Craigslist (any takers?!), and put up the new bed.

The bed did not seem THAT much bigger when we were putting it together but once we went to sleep it was clear that it was huge.

Maggie was very excited that she had her very own spot for reading books and watching morning cartoons:

Four:  Bedding
We did purchase new sheets for the bed but are still using our queen size quilt, which has been working fine, although we are now looking for a King size.  (I'm 99% sure we are going to buy the same one that we had in a bigger size.)  Our duvet was a king-size so that fits fine.  We are wanting to get larger pillows since the pillowcases that came with our sheet set are large and look ridiculous on normal pillows (using old pillowcases for now).

Next Steps:  Decorating
Now that the bed and furniture placement are settled, we can finally decorate our room.  We bought this three pack of photos from Ikea and hung them above my wide dresser.

I think our next project will be extending the curtain from behind the bed to be the full width of the bed - you can see that it looks really silly right now!  Here are two photos from Pinterest demonstrating the look.  I prefer the second photo where the curtains extend beyond the bed, but maybe that is my preference since those people have our exact same bed.

So far, I am not sleeping that great on the new mattress.  Go figure!  It has been improving each night though so I think I am adjusting.

  1. Fun! I'm dying for a King sized bed. Also, we bought the Steinhafel's foam mattress last year. It took me awhile to get used to it, but now I sleep fine. It is an adjustment. Can't wait to see how it all comes together.
